The Fungo-cisterna, a Mushroom-cistern of the Cascine Vica water works, which has never functioned, an apparently aimless structure of remarkable size, located in the centre of a densely populated area. The challenge of transforming this landmark, neglected and so unloved by the neighbourhood, into a work of art with the potential of becoming a distinctive element and a totem for the district, was immediately received as a stimulating idea.
Because of it being a rather peculiar piece of contemporary architecture, the choice privileged the use of saturated colours. Every evening the mushroom-shaped concrete structure is literally painted down by powerful colour-changing architectural lighting devices, which transform it into a massive contemporary sculpture.
