L'ombra di Eftimio

It’s a one colour (anthracite) human figure poorly dressed, which underlines the difficult existential conditions just as those of today’s many immigrants. It was a four-handed work with Piero Gilardi. His name is Eftimio and projects his shadow onto the ground, right in front of himself, as though the sun were behind him. It is a materic shadow, composed, according to Gilardi’s style, of oil by-products, such as polyurethane. A shadow reproducing the shoreline with the sand and its pebbles and sticks consumed by the sea, a sea urchin’s skeleton, a prickly pear... a fragment of memory, Eftimio’s land. Eftimio is the true name of an inhabitant from the island of Leros (Greece) made into a sculpture by Marco Giannini.
